Half Day rock cLimbing Instruction in Moab
Moab is known for its climbing, so why not dip your toes in with a half day of guided climbing? No experience necessary, and fun for all ages. Get your hands on some rock!
Guided Rock Climbing in Moab for Beginners & Beyond
We might be biased, but we truly believe rock climbing is the best outdoor sport there is. It’s fun, endlessly engaging, and there’s always something new to learn. You build strength, balance, and confidence without even realizing it, all while spending time outside in incredible places. If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to tip-toe up a rock face while securely tied into a rope, Moab is one of the best places in the world to give climbing a try.
Moab is surrounded by stellar climbing areas, known as crags, featuring a wide range of sandstone types and climbing styles. From smooth slabby faces to steeper, more technical routes, the variety here makes it an ideal destination for first-time climbers and those looking to progress their skills outdoors. On this guided rock climbing trip, we’ll visit one of these incredible areas and set up climbs that match your ability level, typically working up to progressively more challenging routes as the day goes on.
What to Expect on a Guided Rock Climbing Trip
We’ll choose from several excellent climbing crags near Moab, each offering a variety of routes at different difficulty levels. Depending on the season and weather, we’ll seek out sun or shade to make the day as comfortable as possible. Once at the crag, your guide will set up top-rope climbs so you can focus on movement, technique, and enjoying the experience without worrying about complex systems.
For beginner climbers, we focus on building a strong foundation. You’ll learn how to belay (keeping your climbing partner safe while they climb), tie into the rope using a figure-eight knot, lower your partner, and move efficiently on rock. We’ll also work on climbing movement and footwork, helping you learn how to trust your feet and move with balance rather than brute strength.
For climbers with some prior experience, this trip can go deeper. We can expand on what you already know, refine your technique, and offer detailed feedback on movement. Often, small adjustments—how you place your feet, where you shift your weight, or how you rest—can make a huge difference. With expert observation and real-time coaching, you’ll gain tools that help you climb more confidently and efficiently.
This experience is fully customized to meet you where you’re at, so feel free to tell us about your climbing background, goals, or anything you’re curious about learning. If you would like to learn more advanced techniques, please refer to our half day or full day intermediate climbing courses.
