Funnel Arch Climb & rappel
Want to try climbing and canyoneering in one? This fun excursion is for you--and you'll get to see a really cool arch to boot!
the best of both worlds
Funnel Arch is like a playground sculpted from ancient rock. It requires a little bit of hiking, a little bit of scrambling, a roped-climbing section, and a couple fun rappels, the longest of which is 100'. It is beginner friendly, and truly just a great romp through the Moab desert!
What to expect: After a 15-20 minute drive from Moab, we will park and hike into the canyon. The first scramble is just a few minutes up the trail. Following that, we hike up some cool water runnels, past the arch, and then climb the smooth saddle that get's us on top of our first rappel. After rappelling, we will pause under the arch, then wind our way towards the second rappel, which descends into a deep desert crack, with a narrow hallway of stone waiting on the bottom. This trip finishes with a fun down-climb out of the narrow slot canyon.
Duration: This is a typically a 4 hour trip town to town.
What to Bring: A small to medium backpack to carry your stuff, close-toed Hiking shoes, 3 liters of water per person when temperatures are over 85 degrees, 2 liters per person otherwise, lunch and snacks, a hat, sunglasses, sun protection (sun shirt, sunscreen, chapstick, etc). Climbing Shoes are not necessary for this trip, but if you have them and wish to bring them please do.
We will provide all technical equipment such as ropes, harnesses, helmets, rappelling devices etc.
